A TALENTED team of stylists at Leeds-based Yazz Number 1 Hair studio is celebrating after winning a place at the finals of the prestigious L’Oréal Men’s Image Award, as part of the Colour Trophy 2015.

But that’s not all; staff have also made it to the regional finals of the annual L’Oréal Colour Trophy, in a bid to get to the finals later this year. Abigail Lawrence of the Rawdon salon, and Charlotte Newsham from the Guiseley premises are thrilled to be instrumental in the team’s success.

Also helping to get the salon to the finals (due to take place in London ) of the men’s image award are stylists Steven Lee from Yazz’s Guiseley salon, alongside Jess Lyon from the Yeadon branch.

Speaking about Yazz’s success, owner Paul Shakeshaft had this to say: “What an amazing achievement from my talented team at Yazz Number One Hair Studios: four entries submitted and four through! We also have two through to the Men’s Awards Regional Finals, plus two through to the Ladies’ Regional Finals. It’s been made even more special in joining in the celebration of 60 years of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy in 2015.

Taking place on Wednesday, April 15 at New Dock Hall, The Royal Armouries, the regional event will honour the salon – which has premises in Yeadon, Rawdon and Guiseley – alongside other hair styling businesses in the area.

In the first round, the hairdressing industry’s most fashion-forward live hairdressing competition saw hundreds of photographic images from across the country be judged by influential stylists. The panel, which included last year’s winner and X Factor hairdresser Jamie Stevens, was also made up of 2012 title holders Sally and Jamie Brooks, leading session stylist Adam Reed and hairdressing icon Charles Worthington MBE.

Yazz Hair fought of stiff competition to be chosen to take part in the high energy regional finals. The next stage will put stylists very much through their paces as they create a look that demonstrates an awareness for autumn/winter 2015/16 hair and fashion trends. As outlined in the brief, the look must be original, modern and inspirational, with the team of judges looking for trend-setting, show-stopping skill that can inspire clients and hairdressers alike.

Expert colourists and stylists from Yazz will now join 60 other salons from across the region in a bid to make it through to the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final to compete for the coveted L’Oréal Men’s Image Award 2015.

The fashion-fuelled, high energy event will be one of eight highly-anticipated regional finals happening up and down the country. Each salon team will only have 30 tense minutes to bring their model look to life and demonstrate that they are the region’s most talented and creative hairdressers to a panel of judges consisting of acclaimed hairdressers.

“It’s a great achievement to make it to this stage, the Regional finals have an amazing atmosphere bringing talented hairdressers from all over the region under one roof. What turns my head and captures my attention is when all the elements come together, great model with styling and makeup that work flawlessly with the cut and colour – an overall style that looks effortless and this is what the teams must show the judges at each regional final in order to progress to the next stage.” Said Trevor Sorbie MBE

Yazz Number One Hair Studio could be one of just six salons to walk away with a place in the industry’s longest running, glamorous awards event the 60th annual L’Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final on June 1 inside the stunning Battersea Evolution, Battersea Park, London. This stage leaves them just one step away from scooping the unparalleled prize of national media exposure and glamorous fashion shoots and much more!
